Don’t sweat it…

Update 5/5/09:  The fledglings seemed to have successfully flown the coop!

Hot, sweltering weather is the norm here in Glendale, AZ.  I just can’t wait! Oh yeah, I guess I don’t have to because it was already 102 degrees last week.

Well I know I should be making costumes, but before it gets excruciatingly hot and sweaty around here, I need to get my patio cleaned off. Besides, I can always sew with the air conditioning cranked downed to 80 degrees (recommended temperature, more like 75 degrees for me).

I am working on a few posts, but need to get some things together first.  In the meantime, I am on Starling fledgling watch as I wait for the new babies to emerge from the tree only to be chased to bird1their deaths by the three cats that live outdoors.  Hopefully, I will get there as the birds emerge before the cats get them in their sights.bird

Good job! I’m so glad your on duty and being “Watch Mom” for those sweet baby birds. :o ) Several years ago when our daughter was in elementary school–we had a robin nest in our arbor over the front walk. Every morning we’d go out to the arbor and watch for downy heads to pop up. Finally, the eggs hatched and there were three little loud baby birds. It was delightful to watch the baby robins grow, get booted out of the nest by mom & dad and learn to fly. :o )

    Good post!

Thanks Sarah! When Todd was in cub scouts, he made a birdhouse that we hung in that tree. For years we never had birds roost in it. Finally we took it down, the tree started to die off somewhat and the woodpeckers bore holes into it. Now the tree is the birdhouse! The starlings moved in and we go through this every year in the spring. Most of the time I am successful at transferring the fledglings to the neighbor’s yard where they are safer and at least have a chance to survive.
